Proverbs 8:22-31: Wisdom (personified) speaks: "The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth." Wisdom is the FIRST principle, present before creation, the organizing intelligence through which creation is structured.

Proverbs 3:19: "The Lord by wisdom founded the earth" — wisdom is the METHOD of creation. Not brute force, not arbitrary decree, but wise ordering.

Divine Simplicity (Aquinas, ST I, Q.3): God is absolutely simple — not composed of matter and form, not composed of essence and existence (in God they are identical), not a genus. God is maximally non-composite. The most fundamental reality is the simplest.

TESTS

The Four-Test Protocol

Test 1 — Prediction Constraint: Does the mapping constrain predictions in both domains?

In Domain A:

  • Future fundamental theories should be simpler than current ones (fewer free parameters, deeper symmetries, higher compression). The historical trend supports this: Newton → Maxwell → Einstein → Standard Model → (future unification). Each step reduces the number of independent principles.
  • Any proposed fundamental law that is LESS compressible than current laws (more parameters, more ad hoc exceptions) is suspicious. This is already standard methodology in physics.

In Domain B:

  3. Show that divine simplicity is incoherent (as Plantinga argues) — that God must be complex to be personal, knowing, and loving. If simplicity fails in theology, Domain B collapses.

STRAIN ANALYSIS — The Honest Part

Where it holds: Global optimization structure (least action / wise creation) is a genuine shared pattern, not a trivial similarity.

Where it strains: The mapping is suggestive, not constraining. It does not generate predictions that either domain does not already generate independently. The action principle does not need wisdom theology to work, and wisdom theology does not need the action principle to be meaningful. The mapping ILLUMINATES but does not CONSTRAIN.
