The Core Claim
Bose-Einstein Condensation is a quantum phase transition in which a macroscopic number of bosons collapse into the ground state below a critical temperature. The process follows a causally forced 12-stage sequence: from vacuum state through external pumping, sub-threshold accumulation, critical fluctuations, symmetry breaking, condensation, ground state establishment, Goldstone mode emergence, topological protection, superfluid response, persistent current, and finally the critical velocity limit.
The Reformed ordo salutis — the order of salvation — describes the stages by which a person moves from the fallen state to glorification. It also follows a causally forced 12-stage sequence: fallen state, prevenient grace, common grace, conviction, repentance, conversion, justification, new spiritual freedom, perseverance, corporate coherence, sanctification, and the temptation threshold.
The stages match. The ordering is independently forced in both domains. Condensed matter physicists and Reformed theologians derived the same causal sequence from completely different first principles, in complete institutional isolation from one another. This is a process isomorphism — not a structural parallel between static states, but a dynamic causal sequence that preserves ordering, irreversibility, and stage-function across domains.

Statistical Significance
What the numbers mean: At 50% random-match probability per stage, hitting 12/12 has p < 0.001. This crosses the conventional threshold for scientific significance in a single experiment. The ordering-adjusted estimate (30% random match per stage, accounting for the additional constraint that the causal sequence must also be independently forced) reaches 5.8σ — the particle physics standard for discovery.
What the numbers do NOT prove: Statistical significance establishes that the match is unlikely to be accidental. It does not establish mechanism. Even 5.8σ does not tell you WHY the sequences match — only that they do, more reliably than chance. The causal ordering test (Section 04) provides the structural argument for why.
The Causal Ordering Test
The statistical significance is necessary but not sufficient. The decisive evidence is that the ordering is independently forced in both domains. Neither community borrowed the sequence from the other — they derived it from their own governing principles.

Strongest Correspondences
Topological Protection ↔ Perseverance
A topological invariant (the winding number) cannot change continuously. To return from the condensed state to the vacuum, the system must pass through a singularity — a catastrophic event that destroys the ordered phase entirely. There is no gentle slide back.
"No one can snatch them out of my hand." (John 10:28-29)
This is a topological statement, not merely a promise of safety. The new state is protected by the mathematical structure of the ordered phase — not by ongoing external intervention. The winding number is conserved. Period.
Critical Fluctuations ↔ Conviction
As BEC approaches the critical temperature, the correlation length diverges. This means fluctuations at every scale become correlated — every part of the system becomes aware of every other part. The system "knows" it is approaching a fundamental transition.
The phenomenology of conviction is exactly this: suddenly everything seems to point to the same conclusion. Unrelated events, separate relationships, isolated thoughts — all begin to correlate. The Holy Spirit convicts by making the long-range correlations visible.
Governing Physics
The BEC stages are not reverse-engineered from theology. They follow from first principles — derived from the chi-field Lagrangian coupled to a Lindblad open quantum system.
The Gross-Pitaevskii equation governs the condensate wavefunction ψ and is required for promotion to Level 3. Specifically, the Level 3 promotion requires an explicit substitution map Σ: {χ, ψ, γ, T_c} → {grace, spirit, conviction, justification} that preserves the GPE structure under substitution. This work is not yet complete.
Honest Assessment — Current Classification
Level 2: Structural Analogy — Not Yet Level 3
This mapping is currently Level 2 (Structural Analogy). All 12 stages are analogies, not proven isomorphisms. The mapping is real and promising but does not yet supply bidirectional operation-preserving maps or surprising quantitative predictions.
This assessment is from an independent audit conducted by the o3 reasoning model using the 4-prompt Paper Intelligence system (April 2026, 20,446 tokens, $0.56). 15 overclaims were identified. 11 missing equations were identified. The honest classification is Level 2, and it is stated as such here.
This is a feature, not a flaw. The Faith Through Physics research program is committed to honest classification. Calling a Level 2 mapping a Level 3 isomorphism is academic dishonesty. Calling it Level 2 and showing the upgrade path is scientific integrity.
Promotable Stages (Concrete Upgrade Paths)
- Stage 4 Conviction = Critical Fluctuations. Prediction: conviction episodes should exhibit scale-free temporal correlations consistent with critical phenomena. Testable against experience-sampling data from conversion narratives.
- Stage 5 Repentance = Symmetry Breaking. Prediction: the direction of post-repentance reorientation should not be determined by the pre-conviction state alone — external symmetry-breaking fields (community, Scripture, crisis) should be statistically significant. Testable against conversion sociology.
- Stage 6 Conversion = Condensation. Prediction: conversion should be phenomenologically discontinuous (phase transition) rather than gradual (crossover). Testable against conversion narrative analysis.
- Stage 9 Perseverance = Topological Protection. This is the strongest candidate. Prediction: topological perturbations (catastrophic life events that destroy the ordered phase entirely) should produce faith collapse, while sub-critical perturbations should not. Testable against apostasy research.
Required for any stage to reach Level 3:

- If the 12 stages can be reordered in either domain without breaking the system. In BEC: if topological protection can precede symmetry breaking, the physics mapping collapses. In soteriology: if perseverance can precede conversion, the theological mapping collapses.
- If BEC stage ordering is shown to be contingent — if different physical systems undergo phase transitions in different orders, such that the 12-stage sequence is a special case rather than a general structure.
- If the ordo salutis ordering is shown to be theologically arbitrary — if the Reformed causal sequence is a confessional convention rather than a theological necessity, the mapping loses its independence claim.
- If probability of random 12/12 match is shown to be significantly higher than 50% per stage (e.g., if BEC stages are widely known in theological circles and the mapping was constructed post-hoc), which would reduce the statistical significance to non-notable levels.
- If the Gross-Pitaevskii equation, when applied to the theological domain via explicit substitution map Σ, produces predictions that are empirically falsified.
